About the Race
The Capitol Hill Competition was founded 28 years ago as a spirited race between the staff offices, agencies, and committees serving the House and Senate. In this race within the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile, runners compete in either the House or Senate division. The top three teams in each division receive both team and individual honors.
Teams can also compete for the coveted Capitol Hill/Congressional Cup, the trophy presented to the single fastest overall team that represents a Representative’s or Senator’s office. Click here to read full details about the composition of House Teams and Senate Teams.
The world-class Credit Union Cherry Blossom run coincides each year with the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC. The event’s long history, high visibility and scenic beauty draw more than 15,000 runners, including Olympians and hundreds of influential legislators and staffers. Each year, the race benefits from many Members of Congress lending their support by serving as Honorary Race Chairs.
This popular race raises funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, where one in ten children in North America receives treatment every year. The race proceeds help treat some of those kids and support their families as well.
Congressional Federal Credit Union and U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union sponsor the Capitol Hill Competition with support from America’s Credit Unions and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every year.
